About

Evelyn Cools is a singer-songwriter who brings dreamy folk pop music. Her sound has been compared to artists such as Lana Del Rey, Stevie Nicks, and Joni Mitchell.

Born in Sint-Niklaas, Belgium to globe trotting parents, Cools’s early years were spent in New York, Los Angeles, Bremen, Hong Kong, Budapest and Bratislava. Evelyn bought her first guitar while at college in Ithaca, NY. Influenced by Angus & Julia Stone, Bob Dylan, Lana Del Rey, Fleetwood Mac and Simon & Garfunkel, she taught herself how to play and write songs. She moved to London to pursue a career in music and started performing at small bars and cafes in 2014. At the end of 2015, Cools took her music on the road with a European tour through Amsterdam, Tilburg, The Hague, Brighton, Bruges, Antwerp, Sint-Niklaas, Neuchâtel, London, Budapest and Berlin.

Cools released her debut EP Calming Storm on the 27th of November 2015 under the Animal Farm record label in London, which was received enthusiastically by multiple influential music blogs around the world. The EP has been described as “a beautiful and enchanting collection of songs” (The Revue) that “makes a lasting first impression” (50ThirdAnd3rd).

She relocated to NYC in the fall of 2016 and started performing at renowned venues around the city, including Rockwood Music Hall and Pianos. In June 2017, Cools recorded a limited edition acoustic EP called “Acoustic Songs for the Road” with legendary producer Mario Salvati (who has previously worked with Patti Smith). The record has been a hit with fans and hard copies sold out during her tour to the Midwest in July 2017. The American tour was a collaboration with the successful music startup Sofar Sounds, who featured Cools as a guest writer on their global website.

Currently she is working on a songwriting and recording project with world famous engineer Jay Messina (Aerosmith, Kiss, Cheap Trick) and songwriter Nick Holmes (who has written songs for Carly Simon, Art Garfunkel, and Bette Midler). The collaboration is potential new material for her second EP, which Cools plans to release in 2018.
